Dear readers,
How would you feel if a relative of yours ever migrated to the United States? In our hero, the sadness and nostalgia were clear, but given the economic circumstances of his country of origin, he had little alternative but to part on that dangerous adventure to the promised land of the American Dream he had heard about so often.
Against all odds, our hero succeeded in the initial goal of arriving to the United States. With the help of some acquaintances, he secured a job and a place to live. His family members now counted on his economic aid.
As the years passed, our hero formed his own family and alongside his partner found a place to begin this new chapter in his life. Soon, his first son was born and our hero was met with more responsibilities and necessity to work. But times had changed and the economy was not what it had once been.
Our hero, after 15 long years of living in the United States, now with a wife and two sons of 12 and 7 years of age, died in a car accident. Recuperating the inert body was long and expensive. What can you do when money is lacking? Fortunately, enough family members, friends, acquaintances, neighbours and donors provided economic and emotional support and his body was recovered within a week. In his country, his family heard about the tragedy, but could not offer any help aside from prayers for that one member they once saw leave to return successful. These members only received the ashes of the man that that one day left and never returned alive.
In memory of Antonio de la Cruz Valentin and of all those that were left behind in the journey never to been seen alive again.
