Despite the horrific event that most of us in this nation experienced last week, with the passing of the racist anti Latino/Hispanic bill, SB1070, in Arizona, this weekend, the Green Gardeners demonstrated in two public events, how their ancestral inheritance, experience in working the land and their newly acquired green gardening skill will not only continue to contribute to this country’s economy and society, but also to help improve and preserve our environment.
The Green Gardeners were present at two Earth Day celebrations. The first was on Saturday, April 24th, in the City of Pasadena, Memorial Park, where they set-up a booth to distribute marketing material to potential clients. The second event took place on Sunday, April 25th, at the 2nd Annual Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase. Visitors had the opportunity to meet over 80 families who opened up their gardens to demonstrate how they are able to conserve water by using methods such as planting native plants and capturing rain water. These are some of the services that the Green Gardeners are trained to carry out.
Christopher McKinnon, from the Mar Vista Community Council, invited the gardeners to his home so that they could make contact with potential clients that reside in Mar Vista or were visiting the gardens from other communities, such as the Inland Empire and the San Fernando Valley. The Green Gardeners also visited most of the 80 gardens to meet the home owners and visitors.
Both of these events were a success in helping to once again lift our spirits and move us forward in tackling any challenges that we face for the future of all humanity and earth.
