On March 11, a day laborer from the Cypress Park Community Job Center (IDEPSCA) came to visit the members of the Downtown Center to share his knowledge and experiences with drywall.
To make this class possible, a donation of materials was first obtained from the Home Depot and Jose Martinez. Additionally, David Gomez decided to donate his time to share his knowledge. David has a lot of experience in construction and gardening work and he was well received by the Downtown workers, who paid close attention and collaborated in this class. This class was an important tool to provide more skills to increase job opportunities for the workers.
The class lasted a bit over two hours, and David brought his tools and explained their functions and trade practices. This one of the classes that are provided for day laborers that are not only waiting for work, but also collaborate as volunteers to promote the centers and invite other day laborers congregating at the corners.
Those of us with the opportunity to work alongside these day laborers have come to know them in many aspects, but especially as human beings willing to earn the term “day laborer.”
The biggest success is that they support one another, develop leadership skills and share space, work, skills and experiences!!
Support the day laborers!!!
